Excerpt of "The Kitchen" - Jacob's Pillow Technical Residency Showcase

Soles of Duende returns to develop The Kitchen, an evening-length interdisciplinary dance work in which tap, flamenco, and kathak collide in a shared domestic space. Through rhythm, voice, and the resonant body of live music, Soles of Duende is building a narrative of home-making, intimacy, and belonging, investigating how relationships fracture and reform under political and interpersonal pressure. The trio writes: “The Kitchen is a place of return. A place where things are passed down—recipes and expectations—and where they don’t always land cleanly. Across many immigrant cultures, the kitchen is where people gather after the meal is done, where love and friction sit side by side. What happens when tension is not resolved, but lived with?”
